Beyond The Classroom Series: Tyler Bates

In the spirit of course registration time at Xavier, the communication department is highlighting a few classes offered in the upcoming semester. This series showcases three students in the department using their class skills in the real world!
Tyler is a sophomore from Boston completing a Marketing major with a Political Communication minor. Outside of class, Tyler writes and manages his very own sports blog entitled "Need 2 Know Sports" with two of his friends, Sean and TJ. From football to hockey, the blog focuses on informing their audience about all that goes on in sports. Their articles range from previews of games, post game reviews, opinion post and from time to time, discussions.
Tyler is currently taking COMM 221: Intro. to Digital Media with Dr. Hinck and has been applying some of the knowledge and skills he learns in class to his blog. Tyler explained that the class emphasizes knowing your audience and that perspective has made it even easier to communicate his message when writing his blog posts. In addition, he has also learned a thing or two about social media and hashtags and asserts that those lessons get put to use when updating the blog's twitter account.
