Professional Development (PD)

The Xavier Center for Catholic Education (XCCE) supports Catholic schools in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region (and beyond!) by working with Xavier faculty—experts in their fields—to offer professional development opportunities to teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators. Whether through synchronous online seminars, multi-day training tailored to your school's needs, or year-long cohort programs, XCCE endeavors to empower Catholic school educators and strengthen Catholic education.

Cohort PD Programs

Professional Learning Community (PLC)

WHAT: Xavier University has conducted the Professional Learning Community (PLC) Cohort with Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Diocese of Covington schools for nearly two decades. This year-long series of workshops concentrates on developing a professional learning community—built upon the 3 Big Ideas below—at your school to ensure that all students learn at a high level. This program is available at no cost to Catholic schools in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

  • The 3 Big Ideas of PLC: Collaborative Culture, Focused on Learning, Driven by Results

HOW: Schools determine a pair or group of teachers to send to each session. The principal attends with them to help facilitate the school’s growth as a PLC school.

WHEN: The Cohort meets one Friday per month, September through April, 8:30-11:30AM, on Xavier's campus.

  • 2025-26 dates: September 12, October 10, November 14, December 12, January 9, February 6, March 6, and April 17

WHO: Terry Chapman, a retired principal from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, has led the PLC Cohort since its inception. Matt Grosser, a former principal from the Diocese of Covington, joined the PLC Cohort as a co-teacher in 2023-24.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

WHAT: This monthly series will prepare school leaders to implement MTSS practices in their schools to better meet the needs of their students. MTSS is a proactive and preventative framework that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement and support students’ behavior needs. This program is available at no cost to Catholic schools in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

HOW: This series provides school-based teams with an in-depth introduction to the foundational concepts of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in primary and secondary school settings. Teams will learn the rationale behind and intended outcomes of MTSS in K-12 settings, how to integrate academics (RTI) and behavior (PBIS) practices through systems and processes, and how to critically evaluate the viability of MTSS in their school. Participating teams should include both administrators and teachers, perhaps also counselors or other roles—the goal is for a team with decision-making ability to bring MTSS practices back to their school.

WHEN: The cohort meets one Thursday per month, September through April, 8:30-11:30AM, on Xavier's campus. Teams should plan to attend all sessions as new content is presented each month.

  • 2025-26 dates: September 11, October 16, November 13, December 11, January 8, February 12, March 12, and April 9

WHO: Kelly Wegener, adjunct professor of educational leadership at Xavier, has led the MTSS series since its inception in 2024.
