Headings

Page headings help communicate the organization of a webpage. Web browsers, plugins and assistive technologies can use them to provide in-page navigation.

Heading Ranks

Nest headings based on their rank (or level). The  most important heading is h1. We take care of this on the template side of things, so you don't have to. Headings within the WYSIWYG editor should start at h2. Headings with an equal rank should match and levels should not be skipped. Use headings as an outline to your page.

You do not need to open pages with a heading. For more information on headings and page structures, see the WAI's guide on headings.
