Our New Instructional Design and Development Programs

New IDDT Degree and Certificate Launch
The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce the launch of two new graduate offerings that reflect the growing importance of learning, technology, and strategic communication in today’s professional landscape. The Master of Science in Instructional Design and Development and Graduate Certificate in eLearning Design and Development was launched this semester through the Communication Department. Both programs were created in response to the increasing demand for professionals who can design effective learning experiences that connect people, content, and technology across diverse organizational settings.

The first cohort of students began this Spring 2026 semester, with both programs offered in a 100% fully online format to support working professionals and adult learners. Designed with flexibility in mind, the programs allow students to immediately apply theory and practice within their current roles while engaging in rigorous, graduate-level coursework. The curriculum is designed to support students who are preparing for or advancing careers in instructional design and technology. It also prepares professionals for organizational learning and development roles across corporate, government, nonprofit, and higher education environments.

MS Degree and Certificate Format
The MS in Instructional Design and Development combines foundational learning theories with digital learning strategy, preparing students to plan, design, and implement innovative instructional and training solutions that address real-world performance needs. The Graduate Certificate in eLearning Design and Development offers a focused, four-course pathway for professionals seeking to strengthen their skills in designing and developing digital learning experiences, with each course delivered in an accelerated eight-week online format.

Together, these programs provide stackable, career-aligned options that support both upskilling and long-term professional growth. The programs are led by me, Dr. Alexander Murray in the Communication department, and reinforce the College’s commitment to innovative, applied graduate education that meets evolving workforce and learner needs.
