The Ethics of Encounter

Congratulations to Marcus Mescher, assistant professor of Christian ethics in the Department of Theology, on the publication of his book, "The Ethics of Encounter: Christian Neighbor Love as a Practice of Solidarity." This book works out a framework for building the "culture of encounter" Pope Francis has been describing in the seven years of his papacy. It provides insights from Scripture, church teaching, and the work of Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ, at Homeboy Industries as resources for overcoming despair, distrust, and division. Fr. James Martin, SJ, (Xavier's commencement speaker in May 2019 and author of "Jesus: A Pilgrimage") describes Mescher's "compelling new book" as "essential reading for anyone looking for hope and healing for our church and world."

The book is now available on Amazon.
