Philosophy Students Learn from Holocaust Survivor

Two weeks ago, Timothy Quinn, Chair and Professor of Philosophy invited Henry Fenichel, Holocaust survivor and Professor Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati to speak to his course.

Quinn’s course, Topics in Modern Philosophy: Holocaust & Philosophy, provided a clear opportunity to Fenichel to share his experience with Xavier students.

While speaking, Fenichel revealed the yellow star he was forced to wear as a child. Despite the humiliation it carried, Fenichel noted that he treasures the star. To him, it serves as a reminder, “to have respect for others who look different from us.”
