The following awards are presented to a Sociology major each year:

The Clarence J. Wagner Sociology Award

In memory of Clarence J. Wagner, this honor is presented annually to the graduating senior who attains the highest distinction in the Bachelor of Arts program in Sociology. The recipient exemplifies exceptional scholarly achievement while demonstrating sustained intellectual curiosity, methodological rigor, and a deep commitment to sociological inquiry. This accolade celebrates the graduate’s exemplary record and potential for continued impact within and beyond the field of sociology.

The Rev Francis Luttmer Social Science Award

Presented each year to a graduating senior in the Sociology BA program in memory of Francis Luttmer, this award honors the student whose collaborative spirit, research initiative, and community-building efforts have most profoundly enriched the life of the department.

The recipient plays a pivotal role in joint research projects, contributing ideas, data collection, and analysis that advanced collective inquiry and fosters an inclusive and supportive environment by organizing seminars, peer-mentoring sessions, and social events that strengthened departmental bonds.
