Dr. Avelina Padin
Assistant Professor, School of Psychology
Dr. Padin is a licensed clinical health psychologist and assistant professor who joined Xavier’s faculty in 2026. Dr. Padin attended Xavier as an undergraduate student, where she first developed an interest in the field of psychology. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Ohio State University and completed residency and fellowship training in the Women's Health and Trauma Psychology program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. After finishing fellowship, Dr. Padin worked for several years as a hospital-based psychologist delivering outpatient clinical services, supervising residents and fellows, and conducting research.
Dr. Padin has clinical and research expertise in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mental health conditions and psychological trauma. Her research focuses on understanding how psychological trauma impacts one’s experience of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood as well as developing and testing evidence-based treatments for perinatal PTSD. Dr. Padin also maintains a small private clinical practice specializing in women’s reproductive health, parenting/caregiver stress, and trauma recovery.
