Dr. Peter Moore

Visiting Professor, Philosophy Department

Dr. Peter Moore earned his PhD in Ancient Greek philosophy from the University of Kentucky. He typically teaches introductory philosophy courses at Xavier. His dissertation interpreted Plato’s Republic as a work of protreptic that has the potential to “turn” readers toward a more philosophical orientation. His current research focuses on the significance of mathematics both in Plato’s metaphysics and conception of philosophical education. Dr. Moore is also interested in the reception of Plato within the history of philosophy and views the research on mathematics in Plato as a promising avenue for correcting modern misconceptions about Plato’s metaphysics.
