Professor Emeritus, Philosophy, Politics and The Public Honors Program

E. Paul Colella arrived at Xavier University in 1979 and enjoyed a 43-year career in the Department of Philosophy where alongside his classroom teaching, he served as Chair of the department. He is the author of many essays dealing with American pragmatism as well as its impact on selected Italian intellectuals. In addition to his work in philosophy, he directed both the University Scholars program and then, as its Founding Director, the Philosophy, Politics and the Public honors program. He also founded Xavier’s Summer Program in Rome. He has been recognized for excellence in the classroom with the Teacher of the Year Award (1983) as well as the Fortin Award (2021).
