The Matthew McCormick Symposium

About the Symposium

Xavier University’s Matthew McCormick Cincinnati Investment Symposium and economic outlook brings regional leaders in economics, financial planning and innovation together to discuss economic growth and development opportunities.

Heading into its seventh year, the Matthew McCormick Investment Symposium began as a way to foster connections among Xavier students and the Greater Cincinnati financial community. The event has grown considerably since – still retaining its original purpose while extending its reach to become a regional summit for discourse on money management, financial planning and economics.

About Matthew McCormick

Matthew D. McCormick graduated from Archbishop Alter High School in 1988, Xavier University with a Bachelor's degree in finance in 1992, and earned his MBA from Xavier with a marketing concentration in 1995. Matt was a business professional for 22 years, spending 11 years as Vice President, Principal and Portfolio Manager at the prestigious investment advisory firm, Bahl & Gaynor Investment Counsel. He was frequently featured on Bloomberg Television, CNBC, Fox Business News, NPR, Reuters and in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Business Courier, Cincinnati Magazine, Cincy and many more. Barrons and Pensions & Investments each profiled him. He was honored as a "Forty Under 40” award recipient by the Cincinnati Business Courier in 2009. One of his biggest passions in life was Xavier University where he gave back to the school through serving on many boards, most passionately with the Xavier Student Investment Fund and as a mentor to many finance undergraduates.  One of the biggest fans of Xavier’s basketball program, he and his family could always be found in their court-side seats during home games and often times at numerous post-season road games. Matt lived his Catholic faith daily, loved his country, pursued his profession with a devoted passion, but most importantly he loved his family with all his heart and soul. Everything he did, he did for the love of his family. Matt passed away unexpectedly at the age of 44 on September 4, 2014. In 2015, his wife Susan worked with Xavier University to endow the symposium in his name for many years to come.
