Undergraduate mathematics research at Xavier unfolds through the senior project experience. The goal of the senior project is to stretch the student's mind beyond her mathematical horizon and provide her an opportunity to explore the deep world of mathematics in an environment were she is personally motivated by her own curiosity and individually mentored by our faculty.

Thus, the senior project provides students with a glimpse of how professional mathematicians employ their ideas to construct new theories and use mathematical tools, so they can master some difficult problem or build up their expertise in some corner of mathematics and then communicate what they learn to a wider audience.

Congratulations to Drew Philip who has been named as the first recipient of the annual Xavier Undergraduate Research Award "given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated an excellent track record of participation in research throughout their time at Xavier.” He was presented with the award at the Celebration of Student Research on Monday, April 24, 2017.
