Bemni Amsalu

International Program Advisor, Center for International Education

(She, Her, Hers)

Bemni Amsalu is the International Program Advisor at the CIE.  She works to help students through the study abroad process and help first year international students through student success coaching. She also works to create programming for students around international education and helps manage the CIE's social media.

Before coming to Xavier, Bemni graduated from the Ohio State University with a B.A. in both Psychology and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. There she advocated for international students through student government and worked on the campaign for Jacob Chang, the first international student to be student body president at OSU. As a second generation Ethiopian-American, growing up she heard stories about her father's experiences as an international student and that heavily influenced her.

Though she has traveled abroad, Bemni was unable to study abroad during her time at college for many reasons. This is part of the reason she is so passionate about students, especially those of marginalized identities, exploring their options in studying abroad and feel supported through the process. She believes in the power of education abroad and making study abroad and international experiences accessible to all.

Bemni is a Cincinnati native and has lived in various parts of the city since she was a child. She currently resides in Norwood. You can catch her in her free time rereading Jane Austen's novels for the millionth time, crocheting her latest project, thrifting for her latest outfit, playing (and failing) at various RPGs or trying one of Cincinnati's many restaurants.

Come in to her office and say hello!
