At Xavier, where are health services offered?

For many years, Xavier’s health and wellness services have been offered at the McGrath Health and Wellness Center. In Fall 2019, Xavier University Health Services will move into the newly constructed Xavier Health United Building. 

Are students required to obtain medical care at Xavier University Health Services? 

No, students may obtain medical services at any provider they choose. Xavier University Health Service is offered for student convenience and staffed with medical professionals experienced in collegiate health.

Who are the providers and staff who will be caring for Xavier students?

All medical providers and staff at the Xavier University Health Services are employed by TriHealth.  

Counseling services will continue to be offered by staff employed or contracted by Xavier University.

Do students need an appointment to get care or can they just walk in for services?

It is recommended for a student to contact the office prior to walking in. Students are able to schedule appointments by phone with Health Services by calling 513-745-3022, option 3. Walk-ins will be seen depending on appointment availability. 

Students in a mental health crisis may walk in for Counseling Services during business hours, or after hours, may call 513-745-1000 to be connected with the on-call therapist.

Will counseling services still be available? Is there a charge for counseling services?

Counseling services will continue to be provided at two campus locations: Xavier McGrath Center and Xavier Psychological Services Center. There is no charge for counseling services at either location and these services will be provided by staff employed or contracted by Xavier. 

Will medical charges be applied to a student’s bursar account?

Not at this time. Medical charges will be billed to one of the following: 

  • Student’s health insurance 
  • Out-of-pocket / self-pay

Will my privacy be protected?

Yes, our Health and Counseling Services team follow all legally required procedures to ensure student and patient privacy. For students utilizing health care insurance in which they are a dependent on their parent’s or other guardian’s insurance, TriHealth statements will show information about types of services provided. 

What hospitals/urgent care centers are available for student use for after-hours/weekend care or emergencies?  

TriHealth has a vast network of services to meet all needs of a student whether that is during normal hours at Xavier University Health Services or at one of the many TriHealth Cincinnati locations after hours.  

An after hours nurse line at (513) 246-7023 is available on nights and weekends to Xavier students.

Students can always contact the physician on call if they have questions. Students can dial 513-745-3022, option 3, to connect with TriHealth’s team to see if the Xavier University Health Services is open or find out about other options. 

What if I have additional medical or counseling questions?

How do I waive or enroll in the student health insurance plan through Xavier?

Visit Xavier University health care portal, logging in with your Student ID number, and using your 8-digit date of birth as your password with no special characters.  Call 513-745-3041 for further assistance in this process.
