Eligibility and Finances

The First Steps Program focuses on creating opportunities and delivering support for first-generation and underrepresented students who:

• Must be a first-generation college student
• Demonstrate a positive attitude, sense of civility, ability to persevere, strong motivation to succeed, and commitment to earn a college degree
• Meet the requirements for admission into Xavier University
• Are U.S. citizens, or an eligible non-citizen (i.e., has a green card)
• Sign and complete the FIRST STEPS participation agreement
• File the FAFSA
• Complete all task requests in Road to Xavier

Next Steps After Acceptance

Participants must:

• Complete the 2025–2026 FAFSA and list Xavier’s school code: 003144
• Check the Road to Xavier portal for required financial documents and submit them by the deadline
• Attend a Financial Planning session with an advisor
• Monitor and respond promptly to your Xavier email
