Parking - Frequently Asked Questions

Permits

Yes, permits are required for all lots on campus at all times.
Students can purchase a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly permit by logging into the parking portal at www.xavier.edu/parkingpermit . Parking assignments are based on your on- campus housing assignment or commuter status.   Parking permits are billed to your bursar bill.
Xavier students can purchase daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly permits at www.xavier.edu/parkingpermit . Students are not eligible for visitor parking.

Yes, a Xavier parking permit is still needed.  The Xavier parking permit provides access to park on campus.  An ADA placard or license plate registered in your name and issued by a state provides the additional ability to park in accessible spaces.

No—parking permits can only be used by the individual who purchased the permit so they cannot be shared or transferred to someone else. Permits allow for only one vehicle to be parked on campus at a time.

Yes! Xavier’s campus has ample parking for all students. Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus—as long as you have a valid parking permit. Just make sure you’re parking in the areas that match your permit type.

Nope—good news! There’s plenty of parking on campus, so you don’t have to worry about a waitlist. Permits are always available.

Student parking permit eligibility is based on current campus housing assignments or commuter status.  We do not permit students to change parking assignments nor do we have available upgrades for student parking.

Yes. All motorized vehicles parked on campus are require to have a parking permit.

  • Xavier students and employees can submit an appeal by logging into the parking portal at www.xavier.edu/parkingpermit within 10 days of issuance. The Parking Appeals Committee manages the parking appeals process. This committee is composed of one faculty member, one staff member, and one student representative, and is charged with ensuring consistent, fair, and equitable review of all appeals. The Parking Appeals Committee is the only party able to make decisions on parking tickets and appeals.
  • Xavier visitors can send an email to parkingservices@xavier.edu for review.

Yes. If a ticket isn’t paid within 10 days, it gets added to your bursar account. Unpaid tickets can also lead to a registration hold, which means you won’t be able to register for classes until it’s taken care of. Keep in mind: If you leave Xavier with an unpaid balance on your bursar account, it can be treated as bad debt and may be sent to collections.

Enforcement

Parking rules are in effect 24/7, so enforcement is ongoing at all times—day, night, weekends, holidays, and summer.
Campus parking is enforced through registered license plates. Rather than having a visible hang tag or sticker, Xavier’s campus requires a visible license plate facing the drive lane.  If your car has a front license plate that matches your rear one, you’re totally fine to back in! If you’re interested in getting a front plate, you can check with your local DMV for options.
No problem! Just add your new or temporary vehicle information to your parking account at www.xavier.edu/parkingpermit and then email parkingservices@xavier.edu and let us know so we can add it to your permit. You can have up to three vehicles on your permit, so there’s plenty of flexibility.
If your car is towed due to parking violations, please contact Parking Services for removal information.  Vehicles may be relocated on campus or taken off campus by Northgate Towing.

Campus Life

Yes! There are two EV charging stations right in front of the Cohen Center. Just keep in mind—you’ll still need a valid Xavier parking permit to park and use them.
During men’s home basketball games and other big campus events, some parking lots may be closed. You’ll get updates about these closures through the student and employee hubs, email, social media, and signs posted around the affected lots. The men’s basketball schedule usually comes out in late September, so make sure you’re aware of game days. It’s your responsibility to move your car out of any lots that will be closed by the posted deadline—otherwise, your vehicle could be relocated and subject to removal fines.

Students are not authorized to park on Musketeer Drive. Musketeer Drive is a no parking zone.   If you park in Musketeer, you will receive a parking citation. Temporary errands where you leave your vehicle are not permitted.

You cannot utilize an ADA placard unless that person is riding in the vehicle with you. In Ohio, the use of Disability Placards is governed by Section 5123.62 of the Ohio Revised Code. The statute states individuals may only use these spaces if they have undergone the required disability determination by an approved healthcare provider and have obtained a valid disability placard issued in their name by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

We’re not able to provide special parking accommodations for temporary injuries. That said, we’re always happy to talk through your situation and see what options might help. Only state BMV offices can issue a disability permit providing permission to park in accessible spaces. More information on disability spaces can be found here: https://ohio.gov/residents/resources/disability-license-plates-and-placards
