Global Engagement Distinction
The Department of Classics and Modern Languages at Xavier University prepares students to engage in a world that is diverse, complex and interdependent, considering multiple perspectives and approaches to critical issues. Global engagement is crucial to the development of global and linguistic competence for academic, career and personal goals. This distinction reflects the mission of the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Jesuit identity in the recognition of students who cultivate solidarity and kinship, and who engage deeply in the study of how identity, location, culture and history shape our views of ourselves, of others and of our world.
The Department of Classics and Modern Languages, the College of Arts and Sciences and Xavier University offer numerous opportunities to advance global citizenship through participation in academic courses and activities that connect students to multilingual communities.
The Global Engagement Distinction is earned by students with demonstrated commitment to language learning, cultural immersion, and global and cultural perspective-taking.
