Copilot

IMPORTANT: Please read our GenAI Best Practices page before using this generative AI tool with course work.

Microsoft Copilot is an AI tool built into Microsoft 365 applications that helps you write, organize, analyze, and create content directly within tools like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

It is especially useful for working within your existing files and workflows, allowing you to generate drafts, summarize documents, create presentations, and analyze data without leaving the Microsoft environment.

At Xavier, faculty can use Copilot to draft course materials in Word, build presentations in PowerPoint, summarize emails or documents, and analyze data in Excel. It supports both everyday productivity tasks and course development work by streamlining processes you already use.

Copilot works best as a productivity assistant embedded in your workflow. It can help you move faster and organize your work more efficiently, but its outputs should always be reviewed and adjusted to fit your specific teaching goals.

CANVAS INTEGRATION

Copilot does not have a Canvas integration, as it integrates directly with Windows, Office 365 tools, and mobile devices.

COST

Copilot has a Microsoft365 Enterprise version, and a paid Pro version.

The key benefits of the Enterprise version over the Pro version is that it offers enterprise-grade security & compliance, and customization options within Copilot Studio. In addition, its chat is able to tap into information that you have access to within the Microsoft 365 environment. (i.e. an answer can be grounded in data that you could access in your email, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.). While Copilot Pro does not offer these enterprise security protections, it provides preferred access to more advanced AI models during peak times and higher usage limits, and includes the integration with Microsoft 365 apps.

ACCOUNT NEEDED

A Microsoft account is recommended to save chat history.  (your Xavier account will work with Copilot)
