Matthew Lee

Adjunct Faculty, Women's Chorus, Department of Music & Theatre

Matthew Lee (he/him) serves as adjunct professor in the Department of Music and Theatre at Xavier University. He conducts the Xavier Women’s Chorus and teaches Aural Skills.

Lee earned his bachelor of music degree in choral music education from the University of North Texas’ College of Music, master of music (with distinction) from Westminster Choir College, and has recently completed course work for a doctor of music arts in choral conducting from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. Lee will graduate in May of 2024. His primary teachers include Jerry McCoy, Richard Sparks, and Joe Miller.

Aside from academia, Lee maintains an active conducting career throughout the region. Since 2021, he has served as Worship Arts Director at First Lutheran Church Cincinnati. Additionally, He is the Artistic Director and Conductor of a local community group, Fluidity – A Creative Choral Community for a Cause and Assistant Conductor of Cincinnati’s Seven Hills Symphony.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Matthew is deeply committed to community work, advocating for marginalized groups, and speaking out against societal injustices. Recognized as a visionary conductor and creative artist, he relishes opportunities where his passion for music intersects with social justice causes. Recently, in April 2023, Fluidity partnered with the Ohio Innocence Project to raise awareness of wrongful convictions and shed light on issues within America's justice system. Matthew's future projects include advocating for affordable housing and environmental justice.

Matthew is happily married to his husband, Tyler, of five years and resides in Westwood with their adorable dog named Luther. Tyler serves as a pastor at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in western Cincinnati.
