Montessori Conversations

025 Why Grace and Courtesy are More Than Good Manners

In this episode we learn what grace and courtesy is, what it looks like across ages, and why it is an integral part of the Montessori classroom.

Guest: Yvonne Froelich

Yvonne is an elementary guide at the Montessori School of Dayton, in Dayton, Ohio, where she has been serving children since 2011. Before coming to Dayton, she served children in Virginia, first at the Williamsburg Montessori School, then as a 6-12 guide (yes all of the second plane together!) in Chesapeake, Virginia, and finally in the public school system in Williamsburg Virginia, helping pre-school children meet their IEP goals in a non-inclusive setting.

She is grateful to have trained at Washington Montessori Institute, at Loyola University in Maryland, where she also obtained her Master’s Degree in Education.

She has taken the Montessori Inclusive Education training, at the Montessori Institute of San Diego, and has taken both the Coaches, and Child Study Trainings given by the National Council for Montessori in the Public Sector. She has taken Orton Gillingham Training to better understand how to serve all children in reading and writing, and has taken training in Dr. Ross Greene’s  Cooperative and Proactive Solutions model in conflict resolution and problem solving, to better serve children in their social emotional development.

In her down time, Yvonne can be found participating in yoga, walking, knitting, reading, and trying to practice  more mindful ways of being in the world!
