Dr. Eileen Alexander, PhD; MS; BSN; RN; SSGB; CPM
Director of Faculty Programs, The Center for Mission and Identity and Associate Professor, Health Services Administration
Dr. Eileen Steinle Alexander, PhD, MS, BSN, RN, SSGB, CPM, is Associate Professor of Health Services Administration at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Director of Faculty Programs in the Center for Mission and Identity. A first-generation college graduate, she earned a BS in Nursing, thesis MS in Biology/ecotoxicology, and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati, where she was an NIH T32 Fellow in Molecular Epidemiology in Children’s Environmental Health. Before joining Xavier, she was an RN in surgical education, hospital epidemiology, and a leader in quality and risk management, guiding her hospital through four successful TJC infection-control accreditations. Her teaching and scholarship span epidemiology, quality management, global and U.S. health systems, ethics, recruitment, artificial intelligence systems, community-service, team and problem-based learning, and risk modeling for twins and families at risk for diseases caused by environment and genetics. Her honors include Xavier University Research Mentor of the Year, Ignatian Educator of Distinction, the Young Investigator award from the International Eosinophil Society, and Teacher of the Year nominations. She also serves in community and professional leadership roles, including founding faculty advisor for Xavier’s Institute for Healthcare Improvement Club, past Chair of the AUPHA Ethics Faculty Forum and Stewardship Chair for the Indian Hill Green Areas Trust.
She developed the MS in Health Economic & Clinical Outcomes Research (HECOR) degree, supporting the need for graduate & online degrees in health analytics, and served as its first Director. She now teaches in the Executive EMHSA program, where her course evaluations are consistently excellent. As part of her Ignatian pedagogy formation, she developed local and global partnerships to support students’ experiential learning in the context of health improvement and community engagement. Of the many Xavier students who completed her Community Service Learning (CSL), Immersive Learning (IL), and Capstone courses for undergraduates, many participated in Independent Study, XU’s Celebration of Research, and co-authored peer-reviewed publications or grants. Her current scholarship focuses on the Universal Apostolic Preferences, such as caring for our common home via sustainable energy use in healthcare operations, with student and faculty involvement. Many, many have represented Xavier locally, regionally and nationally as “women and men for others.”
