Stephen Metzger

After graduation from Xavier University, Stephen Metzger '04 (HAB and Classical Humanities with a minor in Philosophy) pursued graduate studies in the Medieval Institute of the University of Notre Dame where he earned a Master's degree (2007) and a Ph.D. with distinction in Medieval Studies (2013). He was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History of Kalamazoo College in 2013 and was awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship to the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies at the University of Toronto for the academic year 2014-2015. Steve has lectured on many aspects of medieval history, philosophy and theology across the United States and Europe. The training he received in classical languages, research and critical thinking from the HAB and Classics programs at Xavier University were indispensable for his graduate studies and provided a firm foundation for the success that he has enjoyed.
