Department of Biology - Biomedical Sciences Minor
While most pre-med students major in a natural science (Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences), it's also possible to major in Medical and Health Humanities, other humanities disciplines, social sciences, or even some business areas. The minor in Biomedical Sciences is designed for undergraduate students who want to complete the science courses that are prerequisites for medical school or other related health professions, while also pursuing a bachelor's degree in a non-science major.
These students have access to the services of the Pre-Professional Health Advisor and the Professional Health Professions Committee, which together help students understand prerequisites and stay on top of application processes.
The minor includes 39-43 credits of coursework. These are the minimum classes required from the natural sciences for most medical schools:
- BIOL 160-163: General Biology I and II, lectures and labs
- BIOL 206-207: Human Physiology lecture and lab OR BIOL 140-143 Human A&P I and II, lectures and labs
- CHEM 160-163: General Chemistry I and II, lectures and labs
- CHEM 240-243: Organic Chemistry I and II, lectures and labs
- CHEM 440: Biochemistry
- PHYS 160-163: College Physics I and II, lectures and labs
A 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in these courses for the minor.
