Prof. Emily Franzen
Teaching Professor, Biology
Emily is a full-time laboratory instructor and currently teaches human physiology, general biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology and other biology-based subjects as needed. Emily received her Bachelor’s from Wittenberg University in 2010 and her Master’s degree in Entomology from Ohio State University in 2013. She worked as Dr. Ray's lab manager for nine years before transitioning to teaching full-time in 2025. She is passionate about the value of scientific thinking and knowledge for everyone, regardless of their ultimate career path. Emily keeps busy outside of class by serving on the board of Gem of the Highlands 5k and in Norwood City Council as Councilwoman At-Large. She enjoys spending her spare time with her husband Justin and son Cyrus as well as her three dogs and two cats. When she's not at work she loves hiking, running, playing volleyball, doing cross stitch, and reading.
