Core Curriculum Course Readiness Institute
Thursday, May 14, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Alter Hall second floor
The Core Course Readiness Institute is an all-day workshop designed to help faculty prepare for Xavier’s revised Core Curriculum before its launch in Fall 2026. The institute will provide a shared overview of the revised Core structure, curriculum map, mapped Course Areas, and Core assessment process, while also giving faculty practical time to work directly on their own courses. Through whole-group sessions, Course Area breakouts, and focused work time, participants will identify the Core SLOs connected to their courses, ask Course Area-specific questions, and begin drafting syllabus and assignment language that makes Core alignment clear to students.
The institute is intended to support meaningful course preparation once the spring 2026 semester is complete but before the rush of fall course preparations. Rather than letting August arrive with unanswered questions or last-minute uncertainty, faculty will leave the institute with draft-ready syllabus language, a plan for communicating Core SLOs transparently beyond the syllabus, a small set of concrete next steps for any course revisions that are necessary, and a clear pathway for follow-up support. The event is necessary for faculty teaching Core courses, especially those teaching across multiple Course Areas, as well as chairs, program directors, and other academic leaders supporting implementation.
