A Piece of Advice for Our Newest Alumni

Graduating college and entering the workforce is a big change. We want to ease those nerves for our newest alumni. Current Xavier Alumni wrote some advice for the Class of 2025.

BELIEVE in yourself.  Wherever you go contact the nearest local alumni group; and your fraternity and sorority.  They will welcome you to the city and help you to get acclimated.  You will always have a Xavier home.  Stay in contact with

Xavier.  “With God all things are possible”. PRAY, Be Thankful, Grateful and know that you are Loved and Blessed.

Michael Baskett | Class of 74

Resist the temptation to give up on all our society's institutions, ill as they appear at present. Join with others to make your town or state better for those who most need help. Volunteer and/ or contribute to worthy causes. Enjoy balance in life, regardless of the ephemeral rewards that may dangle in front of you.

Continue working hard like you have for the past 4-5 years but make sure you enjoy life. You've earned it! Also, and this is a big one...find a way to give back. It's easy to get caught up in your own life but when you serve others it makes the ride that much sweeter. Congrats!

Carol Bross-McMahon | Class of 1986

As past President of the Xavier National Alumni Association (2014-2016), I got to talk to several classes graduating from Xavier at the Cintas Center.  My message then and now is to get engaged and be active as an alumni member with your time, talents and treasures towards promoting the great values that Xavier brings to the table.  With each alumni member becoming an active marketing executive for the school, we can continue to make Xavier the school of choice.  With our efforts we can create a waiting list to get into Xavier University.  It just makes your diploma much more valuable!

Best Wishes to the New Alumni Members,

Jeff Schneider | Class of 1968 & 1979 MBA

It is okay to feel a little lost and mourn college! Breathe, take time for yourself and your friends and your transition will be amazing

Andrea Dauterman | Class of 2024

Study hard. Eat right and get regular exercise. Self-discipline will help you to succeed!

Best wishes John Hoyle | Class of 1967

Do what you love and what excites you.

Ted Handrup | Class of 1967

CARPE DIEM (nothing else has to be said)

Tom Reese | Class of 1965

Embrace the uncomfortable moments and learn from them. Now you’ve just had a great education on which you can rely, and it is a solid foundation for amazing things. Now go and make a difference in the world.

Mary McSwiggin Mazuk | Class of 1998

Develop mindfulness.  Be aware in the moment of what you're doing and why. Be open to change.  And exploration. Don't sell yourself short.  Assume you'll never fulfill all your potential.  Above all, develop detachment and distance.  You can be greatly involved in work, marriage, any endeavor.  And at the same time enjoy a certain detachment from it all.  This gives you emotional freedom and balance.

Anthony Cianciolo | Class of 1966

Be open to any opportunities that come your way! Life after college will not always be the way you initially envisioned it, but trust that any door that closes makes way for another one to open. Stay in contact with the friends and connections that you made during your time at Xavier — they will be there to help and support you always. Congrats on your graduation, Class of 2025!

Lauren Davidson | Class of 2022

Treat all those that you come across in your workday as if they were Jesus himself; treat others with dignity, concern, love....

Charles Kelly | Class of 1985
