If you have been dismissed from your home institution, Xavier University will honor the sanction that is part of your dismissal. The duration of your dismissal holds true at Xavier University. Xavier accepts transfer applications for Nursing for both Fall and Spring semesters. Our nursing program is designed as a direct admit program and space is limited. Transfer students may be considered for first-year (freshman status) entry or second-year (sophomore status) entry depending on completed coursework. Admission is highly competitive for all entry points.

First-Year (Freshman) Transfer Entry

Students may be eligible for freshman entry if they have completed some college coursework but have not yet completed the 24 credit hours and required freshman Nursing curriculum needed for sophomore-level placement. Freshman Nursing applicants must have a B average or higher in high school science courses for consideration.

  • There is no minimum credit-hour requirement for freshman Nursing transfer consideration.
  • GPA: 3.0 or higher (on a weighted 4.0 scale)
  • Average 3.0 GPA in science coursework with no grade lower than a C
  • Highschool Chemistry and Biology highly preferred
  • Upper-level coursework encouraged

Second-Year (Sophomore) Transfer Entry

Sophomore transfer students must have completed at least 24 credit hours including the required freshman curriculum (A&P I with lab, A&P II with lab, Intro to Sociology or Intro to Social Work) with a B or higher and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Transfers are only eligible to transfer up to the second year of the program.

Transcript Requirements for Nursing Transfer Applicants

Fall entry applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges previously attended before the Nursing application can be fully reviewed.

  • Spring entry applicants may be initially reviewed using unofficial college transcripts that show fall coursework in progress, but must
    • Submit an official high school transcript
    • Submit official final college transcripts to receive official credit evaluation

Additional Important Notes

  • Students who have been dismissed from another Nursing program are not eligible for transfer into Xavier’s Nursing program.
  • Because space is limited, students are strongly encouraged to apply early. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Your admissions counselor will guide you through the process while working behind the scenes with the registrar and academics. You will be asked to provide an unofficial transcript to begin the discussion, but final credit decisions will not be made until we receive the official transcript.

Absolutely! Since the Spring semester begins in January, it is important to have your completed application by December 1. This will give your transfer team time to review your application and evaluate your transfer credits.

Yes! All transfer applicants are considered for merit scholarships when they submit their application for admission. No separate application is needed.

Yes! The Tri-State Community College Scholar program is open to students completing an Associate Degree post-high school at a community college in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana during the 2024 and 2025 academic years. View more information
