Xavier is grounded in the intellectual legacy of the Society of Jesus. Throughout their history, the Jesuits have been renowned for their curiosity in the humanities and natural sciences. These areas inspire our undergraduate core curriculum and professional programs, to which we add emphasis on critical thinking and communication skills.
The education of the whole person includes ethics and values, and also branches into professional applications that respond to the needs of our contemporary society. We prepare our students to enter the world with specialized knowledge that has been further informed through rigorous training of mind and spirit.
The Jesuit traditions of superior academics and care for the person are the basis for everything we do. The Roman Catholic roots of Xavier University are fundamental to our being.
We refer to integration of our Jesuit, Catholic heritage as “The Xavier Way” with a vision of forming men and women of learning and reflection, integrity and achievement, in solidarity for and with others. We believe that discovery, comparison, and critical inquiry will determine the value and truth of all knowledge.
