Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is a digital collaboration platform that brings together students, conversations, and content in one centralized space. It serves as a virtual hub for communication, file sharing, and real-time collaboration, making it a valuable tool for teaching, learning, and departmental coordination. Faculty can use Teams to streamline course communication, host virtual office hours, and share important resources with students. For example, creating a dedicated Team for a class allows instructors to post announcements, organize discussions by topic or module using channels, and provide easy access to course materials.
Teams also supports file sharing and collaborative editing of documents, so students can work together on projects without the hassle of emailing attachments back and forth. Meetings and lectures can be scheduled directly in Teams, with options to record sessions, enable live captions, and store recordings for later access—making content more inclusive and accessible. Beyond the classroom, faculty can use Teams for departmental collaboration, managing committees, research projects, or administrative tasks with built-in calendars, persistent chat, and integration with Microsoft 365 tools like Word, Excel, and OneDrive.
Teams is secure, FERPA-conscious, and accessible on desktop and mobile devices. Faculty can also enhance organization within a Team by adding tabs for frequently used resources such as syllabi, shared calendars, or Microsoft Forms. Whether you're connecting with students or colleagues, Microsoft Teams offers a flexible, user-friendly environment for productive academic collaboration.
