Sarah Ford Thompson

Adjunct Faculty, Department of Music and Theatre

Sarah Ford Thompson is a seasoned dance professional with over 30 years of experience in performance, education, and community engagement within the arts. She is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of dance, having dedicated her career to nurturing talent and promoting artistic expression. Sarah began dancing professionally at the age of 13 with The Lexington Ballet. She went on to earn a BFA in Dance from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and also trained at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Joel Hall Dance Center, Lou Conte Dance Studio and more.

She danced professionally with Deeply Rooted Dance Theater for a decade as well as with many independent Chicago choreographers. She has taught all ages of students from 3-80 years of age at studios including Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Joffrey Ballet Chicago, Ballet Chicago, Hyde Park School of Dance, Joel Hall Dancers and Center, Gus Giordano Dance School. Sarah was the Dance Department Head at the Chicago High School for the Arts, overseeing curricular development and managing a team of over 26 staff members.

Her commitment to mentorship and individualized training has empowered countless students to pursue their artistic and professional aspirations. She currently teaches modern, ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, dance composition, conditioning for dance and yoga. Sarah is thrilled to be joining the Xavier University Department of Music and Theater.
