Matthew Lee, DMA
Assistant Professor of Instruction
Recognized as a versatile conductor and dedicated advocate for social change through music, Dr. Matthew Lee (he/him) currently serves as Director of Choral Activities at Xavier University, where he conducts the Xavier Concert Choir, University Chorus, and teaches voice.
In addition to his work at Xavier, Moquin-Lee serves as Managing Artistic Director of the Young Professionals Choral Collective (YPCC), the largest young professionals choral organization in the nation. Founded in Cincinnati in 2011, YPCC has grown to a roster of more than 1,200 volunteer singers and has pioneered a "choose-your-own-adventure" choral model that has drawn national attention, inspiring similar organizations. Under Lee's leadership, the organization has performed in iconic Cincinnati venues including Music Hall and Memorial Hall, and through arts partnerships with organizations such as the Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Public Radio, and Tennis TV, among others.
A passionate advocate for social justice, Lee is deeply committed to community engagement and to addressing societal inequities through music. His recent partnerships include the Ohio Innocence Project, the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition, Faith Communities Go Green, the Queen City Street Choir, Beech Acres Parenting Center, and the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue. He is also an active clinician and adjudicator.
Lee thrives on building artistic communities, fostering organizational growth and creating meaningful musical experiences that inspire positive change.
Originally from Mississippi, Lee holds degrees from the University of North Texas's College of Music, Westminster Choir College, and from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Lee lives in Cincinnati's West End, with his spouse, Tyler, and their two dogs, Luther and Benny.
