The Strategic Human Resource Management major provides students the opportunity to take advanced courses that are both theoretical and practical in nature from the human resources functional areas, including staffing, compensation, training and development, change management, international human resources and labor relations. Experiential learning, which is real-life experience, is a mainstay of the program.

International Human Resources (SHRM 325) - Compare and contrast labor markets throughout the world, and examine human resource decisions and practices in different countries (e.g., Canada, Great Britain, Germany, France, Sweden, Japan, China, and Mexico). This course investigates the human resource issues and practices that multinational firms are facing.

Compensation (SHRM 345) - An examination of the use of compensation and benefits systems to attract, retain, motivate, and reward employees. This course includes and investigation of compensation system design, strategies to ensure a system that is internally consistent and externally competitive, challenges in compensating special employee groups, employee benefits, and the legal context.

Staffing (SHRM 360) - An examination of the field of staffing within the human resource function. This course investigates the implementation of job analysis results and HR law in the development of internal and external sourcing, recruiting, selecting, and deployment plans.

Training and Development (SHRM 370) - A study of training and development of human resources in organizations. This course investigates the design, implementation, and evaluation of training and development programs, as well as career management and organizational development activities.
