Matthew B. Abens

My name is Matthew Abens and I'm a 1999 HAB graduate with a second major in Political Science. I went on to graduate from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 2002 and passed the Ohio bar exam that same year.

I worked as a staff attorney for a Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court judge from January 2003-2007, and clerked for Justice Maureen O'Connor with the Supreme Court of Ohio 2007-2009.

After leaving the Ohio Supreme Court, I started my own law firm (Harvey and Abens) in 2009. We added a third partner in 2012 (now Harvey Abens Iosue Co., LPA). I've also been a part-time magistrate for a municipal court in Cuyahoga County since 2010, where I hear criminal misdemeanor cases as well as matters in small claims court.

I definitely enjoyed the HAB experience and would do it again. The program provides the opportunity for a well-rounded education and a mode of thinking that, in my opinion, gives a solid foundation that can be used across a wide range of disciplines.
