The McDonald Library is located on the academic mall near Dana Avenue. This building contains most the the library's collections, including archives and special collections. The Conaton Learning Commons is located at the corner of Dana Avenue and Francis Xavier Way. This building hosts the Connection Center, the library's main service point. The two buildings are joined together on the third and second floors.

The juvenile, over-sized, board game, and self-care collections are located on the first floor of the McDonald Library, as well as the Makerspace and Accessibility and Disabilities Resources. The second floor contains periodicals with current issues. Part of the main collection (PQ-Z) and audiovisuals are also housed on the second floor. The third floor contains the majority of the main collection (A-PQ) as well as reference, and University Archives and Special Collections. Also on the third floor is the University Library Gallery. McDonald Library provides study, lounge, and instruction space with an emphasis on individual and quiet study. It houses photocopiers, computer workstations, and printers.

The Conaton Learning Commons provides study, lounge, and instruction space, with an emphasis on group study and collaboration. There are twelve group study rooms that vary in seating capacity from two to ten people. Several of the rooms have plasma screen projection with data access. There are photocopiers, printers, scanners, and computer workstations. There are vending machines and a student kitchenette on the second floor.

The Connection Center serves as the primary service point for the library. Other student support services in the Conaton Learning Commons include the Math Lab, Writing Center, Language Resource Center, Academic Advising, the Digital Media Lab, TRiO, Care and Support Services, Career Development, and the Veteran and Military Families Center. Support services for faculty include the Center for Teaching Excellence, a faculty lounge, and an experimental classroom. There are also additional classrooms, Kennedy Auditorium, and a dining kiosk on the 4th floor.
