Xavier @ Chicago Invite 2013
Xavier's B.L.O.B. was one of 72 ultimate frisbee teams to travel to Chicago, IL for the widely recognized Chicago Invite tournament that fielded many of the country's best teams, such as Northern Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Oregon State. Xavier was ranked 15th coming into the tournament, good enough to placed in one of the "power pools," Pool B along with Missouri (the #2 seed in the tournament, #24 overall in D1), Iowa State (the #7 seed, #53 overall in D1), and Eastern Michigan (#10 seed, #71 overall in D1). Their first game against Iowa State was a very exciting and hard fought game, but Iowa State finished victorious by winning against B.L.O.B. on Universe Point, 9-8. After a tough loss, Xavier then moved on to play against Missouri, with whom they played a good game and hung with the potential nationals contenders, but eventually fell in a 10-5 loss. B.L.O.B. played their best game of the day against Eastern Michigan, resulting in a huge 10-7 win for them that earned them a spot in the championship bracket against Tennessee, the 8th seed, on Sunday. In that game on Sunday, Xavier got out to a hot start and a 3-0 lead, but Tennessee fought back to tie it at 3-3. Xavier then rallied to a very massive and important win against "Agent Orange," 8-6. B.L.O.B. then fell to the 4th overall seed Carnegie-Mellon (12-5) and 1st overall seed and #11 D1 overall Northern Iowa (13-3) in tough back-to-back games. Overall a great tournament for B.L.O.B. who were able to play against top competition and gain some great experience. Xavier gained some deserved national recognition by finishing 7th overall out of the 72 teams, giving them some momentum heading into series play in their D3 Conference tournament in early April.
