Board Holiday Volunteer Event

Ten of our Board members volunteered at the Freestore Foodbank Mayerson Distribution Center over the holiday break. Members were responsible for sorting food and other household items that would be distributed to less fortunate families in the tri-state area. It was a great opportunity to connect as a board and to give back to the community.

Professional Photo Shoot

September 11th and 12th the Xavier Women's MBA Association hosted a Professional Photo Shoot on campus. We had representatives from Mary Kay to assist with make-up and a professional photographer for this popular event. This was a great event for students and alumni to get their photo taken and increase their online presence for career and networking opportunities.

Golf Event

The XWMBA hosted a golf event on Saturday, October 6th at Meadow Links and Golf Academy. Both beginner and advanced lessons were offered to all who attended. We had a great turnout and hope that everyone who came enjoyed the great weather and helpful tips on their swing.

Managing Your Investments Workshop

The XWMBA,s first workshop of the year, Managing Investments, was held on November 14, 2012. Our workshops are structured so that students can stop by before class and learn some basics. About 20 students and some alumni gathered to make this first workshop a success.

Lisa Cicca, Branch Manager at the Fidelity Cincinnati Investor Center, helped students and alumni learn some of the basics of investments. Topics such as retirement planning, IRA differences, college savings options, basic investment strategies, and basic investment products were covered. Students were then given the opportunity to ask questions of Lisa that were important or pertinent to them.

Lisa was very knowledgeable and hopefully inspired some of the students and alumni to move forward with their investing plans. We hope to see everyone at a future XWMBA workshop.

Networking Event

On Thursday, November 29, the XWMBA partnered with the Professional Development Center (PDC) on the Professional Development Center Networking Reception: Holiday Giving and Receiving Event. There was a great turnout of employer partners, Xavier MBA alumni and current Xavier students (both MBA and undergraduate Juniors and Seniors). Maggie McClanahan, President of the XWMBA Board, gave a presentation on networking effectively and authentically. Maggie focused on creating genuine contacts as opposed to just collecting meaningless business cards. Appetizers and refreshments were provided and several door prizes were given out. A pair of Xavier Men's Basketball tickets were also given away to the winner of a networking game we played. The event also helped raise awareness and donations (monetary and kids clothing and school supplies) for Faces without Places, an organization that provides funding and educational resources to the thousands of children attending school in the Cincinnati area that are experiencing homelessness.
