Study Abroad in Spain

Comillas, Spain
May 17 - June 16, 2013

Comillas is a historic fishing village in the province of Cantabria, on Spain?s rugged Atlantic coast. Noted for lovely scenery and cool temperatures, Comillas is famous for monumental architecture commissioned by local aristocrats. Today, the town?s population soars during summer vacation months, as visitors arrive to enjoy the lovely beach and traditional local festivals

Course Objective and Credit

A 3-credit seminar on contemporary Spain will emphasize topics such as civilization, culture, politics, international relations, and economy. The seminar will be given in Spanish for those who have completed SPAN 300 or equivalent, and offered in English (with emphasis on Spanish language & vocabulary) for lower-level students. Students will take an additional 3-credit Spanish language course at an appropriate level. The program will emphasize cultural interchange to enhance the value of the experience.

Classes will take place in the Fundación Comillas, a fully renovated academic facility that was the home of the Universidad Pontífica. We also partner with Intercultural Connections, an educational organization whose director, Dr. Diane Buck, has more than 25 years of experience working with international students in Spain.
