In accordance with guidance from the CDC and the state of Ohio, Xavier is implementing a COVID-19 surveillance testing program for students residing on campus or in the Cincinnati region. Our surveillance testing program is one component of the University’s strategy to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 spread in high-density student living situations.
Each week, a random sample of Xavier students will receive an email message advising that they will be required to complete a University-provided COVID-19 test the following week. The email will provide all necessary details, including registration and scheduling information. The surveillance testing program is not intended for students experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Any student experiencing symptoms should contact Student Health Services at 513-745-3022 and begin to self-isolate immediately.
Students may request an exemption from surveillance testing if they meet the following conditions:
- Having documentation of a positive COVID-19 test in the past 90 days
- Currently engaging in quarantine or isolation per Xavier’s COVID Support Services
- Currently experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19
- Not living in the Cincinnati region and taking all classes remotely
- Having a sincerely held religious belief that prevents COVID-19 testing participation
- Having a documented disability that prevents COVID-19 testing participation
Students will receive information regarding the exemption request process in their surveillance testing email and all exemption decisions will be communicated by email.
Students who participate in Xavier’s surveillance testing program will not be required to quarantine while awaiting their test results. Any student who begins to experience symptoms should contact Student Health Services at 513-745-3022 and begin to self-isolate immediately.
Negative test results will be communicated to students through their Xavier email address. Student Health Services will outreach by phone to any student receiving a positive test result.
The costs of surveillance tests will be billed to students’ health insurance provider. The University will cover any costs not fully covered by the insurance provider.
Student cooperation with Xavier’s surveillance testing program is required as a component of our Community Commitments. Failure to comply with surveillance testing may result in loss of access to campus facilities and a referral to the student conduct process.
