Brian Batchelor-Glader

Adjunct Faculty, Department of Music and Theatre

Brian Batchelor-Glader began studying the piano at the age of nine and quickly developed a strong foundation in classical music appreciation and understanding, which has led him along a rich and diverse musical path. He studied classical piano through high school with Dan Barber. However, Jazz music became Brian’s discipline of choice and he quickly began performing regularly in the genre by the age of 15 at local Akron venues. Some of his major Jazz influences are Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Oscar Peterson, Joe Zawinul, and Stevie Wonder.

To further his development in this area, Brian studied Jazz music under Cleveland legend Dan Wall, and more recently with renowned Cincinnati-Jazz musician Phil DeGreg who says, “Brian is one of the most stylistically versatile pianists in the area. His musicianship is strong and he is always learning and developing his skills. He is one of the graduates of the CCM Jazz program and I am proud to list him among my former students.”

In 2005, Brian earned his Bachelors of music degree in Jazz piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). After CCM Brian taught at several places and ultimately settled in as a faculty member at Cincinnati Music Academy where he has been teaching piano for over 15 years. In 2011 Brian started as adjunct faculty at Xavier University where he teaches jazz piano and performs with the Jazz Faculty.

Brian began a love affair with Latin Jazz in the early 2000s touring nationally with the Latin jazz group Afrorican Ensemble. Around the same time he played with the Salsa band Tropicoso, learning traditional salsa music. In 2018 he became a full time member of the latin jazz group Mambo Combo led by Mike Sharfe. Brian keeps busy performing at the Hard Rock Casino and other venues with Dan Radank (a.k.a. Old Green Eyes). The duo perform songs from the Great American Songbook and have been together for over 10 years. Brian is also a member of Floyd and the Walkmen, a cover band that plays weddings, private events, and public concerts throughout the Cincinnati area. Additionally, Brian has his own group BBG & Company, and plays the Hammond organ with the George Simon trio.

Brian is also a producer and electronic music composer with Cheifdom Records (formerly Mission Control). He has co-produced eight albums to date covering Eclipse Movement – Eclipse, Jahson – The Battle Within, Subterrain – Subterrain, Mood – Live Again, BBG & Company – Live at the Blue Wisp, and CityBeat magazine’s award for best album of 2011, Eclipse Movement’s second-studio release, Around the World. That was followed up by Eclipse Movement’s third album, Blind. Most recently he released a Christmas album entitled BBG & Co. Stocking Stuffers.

Brian has performed with a wide variety of well-known musicians throughout his career such as Othello Molineaux (of Jaco Pastorious band), Cee Lo Green, Fred Wesley (of James Brown band) and 80s rockers: Bobby Kimball (Toto), Alex Ligertwood (Santana/Jeff Beck/Brian Auger), Kim Wilson (Fabulous Thuderbirds), and Jim Keller (Tommy Tutone). Brian lives to share his love of music through teaching and performing.
