Piano Pedagogy and Performance
Sonya Szabo-Reynolds, NCTM, President of Ohio Music Teachers Association, is a highly respected pianist and pedagogue. In 2018 she was featured as a presenter at the Music Teachers National Association National Conference in Orlando, and as a lecture-recitalist at the at the Ohio Music Teachers Association State Conference in Cleveland.
Sonya received OhioMTA's Nationally Certified Teacher of the Year award in 2016. Her students have achieved numerous awards and scholarships.
Sonya graduated with high honors from the University of Michigan School of Music, where she received both her Master and Bachelor degrees in piano, and was inducted into the national music honors society Pi Kappa Lambda. Her former teacher-mentors include Louis Nagel and Nancy Arganbright Weekley.
In addition to teaching and performing, Sonya edited the first English-language translation of Bohumil Fidler's My Life and Memories, published by The Dvořák Society for Czech and Slovak Music (London) in 2008. Her passion for Czech music is reflected in many recent recital performances, as well as in the regular columns (“from the New World…”) she writes for the Dvořák Society for Czech and Slovak Music quarterly newsletters. Sonya has also edited numerous works of composer Bohumil Fidler (1860-1944), published by Alliance Publications, Inc.
Prior to becoming President of Ohio Music Teachers Association, Sonya served on the executive board as Vice-President of State Conferences (2014-2016) and as President-Elect (2016-2018).
