Dan Grantham

Biography

Dan Grantham is the Professor of Trumpet at Xavier University and the Instrumental Music Director at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.  In addition to teaching at XU and CHCA, he is a member of the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra, Southwest Ohio Philharmonic, and the Kentucky Symphony.  He has performed with several ensembles including the Dayton Philharmonic, Euro Brass Ensemble, Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony, and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.  Dan is also the former principal trumpeter of the Lexington Philharmonic and has performed and recorded with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra. 

As a soloist and chamber musician, Dan was a prizewinner in six competitions including the National Trumpet Competition, the International Trumpet Guild Solo Trumpet Competition, and was a finalist in the Ellsworth Smith International Solo Trumpet Competition.  He is a founding member of the Canterbury Brass Quintet and the newly formed Seven Hills Brass Ensemble, where he is the director as well as performer.  With the Canterbury Brass, he won first prize in the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and the New York Brass Quintet Competition.

Dr. Grantham received his MM and DMA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and has served as Professor of Trumpet at East Tennessee State University and the University of Dayton.
