Admission to the Music and Music Education programs is competitive. In addition to the documents required to be considered for admission to the university, applicants must submit the Music Program Audition Application and one Music Teacher Recommendation as well as complete an audition. As part of the audition application, prospective students select an audition date and enter the recommender's contact information (the recommendation form will be e-mailed directly to the chosen advocate).

Applicants begin the process by submitting the Xavier Online Application or the Common Application. To access the Music Program Audition Application prospective students must log in with their e-mail address and password. Those who used the Common Application or forgot their password should use the “forgot password” option.

Audition Preparation

Applicants should prepare two selections of contrasting styles and time periods and may want to consult with their private instructor or music director. In addition:

    • Voice Students should be prepared to sight-read and should sing one piece in a language other than English.
    • Instrumental Students should be prepared to play two-octave major and minor scales.
    • Percussion StudentsClick here for guidelines
    • Music Production Students may perform two selections or submit a production sample (no prior experience is required for the program, but the sample can replace the performance audition if you have done production already).

Recorded Auditions

Applicants who are unable to complete the on-campus audition due to travel distance may submit a recorded audition by sending a YouTube link (with the video set to Public or Unlisted) to kristiansenm@xavier.edu by February 22, 2020.
