019 The history of Cincinnati Public schools and Montessori

We hear about the beginnings of Montessori in the Cincinnati Public School system, learning why Montessori become part of Cincinnati Public, and the process of creating Montessori programs in a public school setting.

Guest: Bob Townsend

Robert Townsend served the Cincinnati Public Schools for twenty years as the Director of Magnet Schools and the Director of Human Resources.  He played a significant role in the development and expansion of Magnet School programs and oversight of the Bronson Settlement Agreement.  Under his direction, Magnet Schools added two elementary Montessori PreK-6 programs and developed and implemented the first public, Montessori Junior/Senior High School (Clark Montessori) in the United States.  He recently retired from Xavier University after serving The School of Education for eighteen years as the Accreditation Coordinator and adjunct professor teaching Educational Research and Educational Research paper.  He holds Master’s and Doctorate (PhD) degrees from The Ohio State University.
