Seal of the Society of Jesus

The Seal of the Society of Jesus includes the IHS monogram with the the cross centered above it, the three converging nails below, and the "Jesuit Sun" consisting of 32 rays - 24 straight and 8 wavy, placed alternately.

  • The first three letters, in Greek, of the name Jesus. These letters appear as a symbol on the official seal of the Society of Jesus or Jesuits.

  • A Seal sits above the doorway of Bellarmine Chapel. The Chapel is a parish of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati with preaching and mission largely influenced by the spirituality of St. Ignatius Loyola. The parish was founded in 1927 with its current Chapel built in 1962.

  • Sun rays, styled in the same manner as the Seal on Bellarmine Chapel, appear etched in glass panels in the Hoff Dining Hall.
