Program Details

In today's connected world, business and commerce have emerged as the world's universal language. As a student in Xavier’s international business major, you’ll gain the practical knowledge and cross-cultural skills needed to pursue global career opportunities in business, commerce, trade, government and non-government organizations (NGOs).

In this major, you’ll take a sequence of core courses (International Marketing, International Management, and International Finance) and choose one focus area (Marketing, Management, Economics & Finance, or Sustainability). You’ll also complete a minor in a second language and engage in a semester-long study abroad program. Students in the program may choose to double major in any functional area of business in lieu of completing the focus area.

Here are some sample courses that are part of the international business major at Xavier:

International Marketing (MKTG 320) - Conditions peculiar to international marketing of goods and services and their effects on marketing strategy.

International Management (MGMT 325) - The purpose of this course is to create a framework for understanding competitive positioning of organizations, human resource and cultural issues related to international management. Lectures and country projects, discussion group projects, and guest speaker visits.

International Finance (FINC 476) - International monetary system, international money and capital markets, and financing of international business.

International Human Resources (SHRM 325) - Compare and contrast labor markets in Asia, Europe and the US. Compare and contrast human resource decisions and practices in different countries (Canada, Great Britain, Germany, France, Sweden, Japan, China and Mexico), Analyze human resource issues and practices that today's multinational firms are facing.

Career Outcomes

99% of Xavier students, inclusing those in the international business major, are employed, attending grad school, or working in service or volunteer positions within six months of graduation (Class of 2022).

More: Xavier's Career Development Office assists students in their search for employment by offering individual career counseling sessions, conducting workshop series on interviewing and resume writing techniques and maintaining an educational, vocational and employer information resource center. International Business Association 

The International Business Association meets regularly on campus, hosts guest speakers to campus and local restaurants, visits local companies, and has gone on trips to Washington, D.C. or New York to visit international companies and organizations.

Citizens of the World

Students in this club meet and organize events that showcase the many different cultures represented at Xavier. It's also a great way for international students and American students to get to know each other and experience new cultures, languages and customs.

Business Leaders for Tomorrow

Members of this student organization explore business processes firsthand by networking with and learning from various business leaders in Cincinnati and beyond. Events from past years have included trips to Silicon Valley and Chicago, job shadowing days and guest lecturers.
