Ohio law protects all information you discuss with your therapist throughout the course of counseling as "privileged communication". This means that your therapist will not release or discuss what you share with anyone else without your knowledge and informed consent. Your therapist will maintain your confidentiality.
Some exceptions apply, including:
- Situations of imminent physical harm to yourself or to others
- Known or suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly or handicapped person
- Court order
All staff at the Health and Wellness Center are prohibited from consulting with or sharing protected information about any student with any other persons or university staff without your informed consent. Within the Center, therapists may, when necessary, confer with other counseling or medical staff to facilitate and coordinate our services to you.
