Sycamore: alternate, simple   4-8? deciduous leaves that are somewhat triangular in shape with 3-5 shallow palmate lobes.  Buttonball fruit is an aggregate of many nutlets hanging from twigs on 3? stem.  Disintegrates after seeds are dispersed.  The bark is mottled appearance on the upper part of the tree (looks almost like army camouflage), exfoliating in irregular flakes.  These trees are usually found growing along streams and rivers.  Native to the Midwest.
