Spring Cleaning: Refresh and Improve your Courses

9:30 am-3:00 pm, CLC 308 

Before you shift into summer mode, join the CTE and IDT for a day of workshops to help you refresh, revise, and improve your courses. These sessions provide the space and support for you to make those changes to one or more of your courses that you may not have had time to make during the semester. 

The morning sessions will focus on improving the accessibility of your course content and completing the accessibility training modules. The afternoon session will cover many facets of course design, including integrating new instructional technologies. In both, you will receive individualized support from IDT staff to make changes to your course(s). Detailed session descriptions are below.

We encourage you to attend as many sessions as you can. Registration is appreciated, especially if you plan to join us for lunch.

All sessions will take place in CLC 308 and 309. Lunch will be provided starting at 12:00 pm in the CTE Stinson Lounge.

Session Descriptions

Improve Accessibility I: Pages

9:30-11:00, CLC 308

During this session, you will learn how to create accessible page content with the Canvas Rich Content Editor and Ally, Xavier's course accessibility tool. You will practice creating different types of page content, and you will complete an Ally activity. This hands-on workshop is designed to help participants complete their accessibility training. 

Improve Accessibility II: Videos 

11:00-12:00, CLC 308

In this session, learn and apply accessibility best practices for video content in your course. Review an existing course or bring plans and ideas for a new one and make video content in your course accessible for more learners.

Improve Accessibility III: Open Help

12:00-12:30, CLC 308

In this session, receive one-on-one help with improving accessibility for your course, including utilizing Ally to identify and rectify accessibility issues on Canvas.

Course Refresh

1:00-3:00, CLC 308

This session will provide an opportunity to identify areas of improvement in your course and make adjustments to enhance student learning. IDT staff will begin the session by reviewing important enhancements made to Canvas and other learning technologies over the past year – including new LTIs for Ally, Zoom, Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive, and OneNote Class Notebook. There will then be open time to work individually to identify and implement course improvements.

Participants are invited to seeks assistance for a range of course re-design issues. Some examples include: accessibility; module design; updating activities or assignments; integrating new LTIs; rubrics; gradebook set-up, especially to accommodate a new grading approach, such as specifications grading.
