Call for Applications: Faculty Associate

The CTE is seeking applications for Faculty Associates for the 2023-24 academic year to collaborate with the CTE Administrative and Faculty Directors in planning and delivering faculty development activities.

The Faculty Associate position is a one-semester appointment, serving in either fall or spring semester. Faculty Associates will receive a teaching load reduction of one course and a stipend. They will contribute approximately 25% of their time to the role during the appointed semester and may also contribute time during the preceding summer, depending on CTE need and Associate availability.

Expectations

Fall and spring Associates will support scheduled CTE programming and propose a teaching-related topic (e.g. inclusive classrooms, active learning, cognitive research, discipline-specific teaching, etc.) on which to develop expertise and related programming. Expectations for fall and spring Associates differ based on programming needs of the semester.

Fall Faculty Associate is expected to:

  • Help conduct New Faculty Orientation and Pedagogy and Tech Boot Camp during the week of August 14, including participating in planning meetings during the summer
  • Develop further expertise on their proposed topic and submit a program and budget plan during summer 2023
  • Conduct 2-3 programs (workshop, book discussions, brown bags, etc.) based on their topic
  • Support regular programming as needed, such as fall speaker events, Faculty in Residence, book discussion groups, brown bags, etc.
  • Participate in CTE programming and its assessment

Spring Faculty Associate is expected to:

  • Develop further expertise on their proposed topic and submit a program and budget plan during summer 2023
  • Conduct a series of at least 4 workshops or programs during spring semester
  • Be available for consultation on their proposed topic
  • Support regular programming as needed, such as January Pedagogy and Tech Boot Camp, spring speaker events, brown bags, etc.
  • Participate in CTE programming and its assessment

Eligibility & Qualifications

Full-time faculty from all disciplines are eligible to apply. Qualified faculty members will be familiar with the CTE mission and will have engaged with CTE programs in the past.

Additionally, applicants for CTE Faculty Associate should demonstrate: 

  • Enthusiasm for promoting faculty excellence in teaching at Xavier
  • Openness to and/or experience with inclusive and innovative pedagogy, particularly methods that support student success
  • Participation in CTE faculty development programs at Xavier
  • Experience leading faculty groups and/or initiative

Application Instructions & Submission

Applicants must submit proposals following the format outlined below. Applications will be reviewed by a panel including the CTE Administrative and Faculty Directors, and representation from the CTE Faculty Advisory Board.

The following must be emailed as an attachment to cte@xavier.edu by Monday, January 30, 2023:

  1. Application narrative in the form outlined below;
  2. Abbreviated curriculum vitae, highlighting one's engagement with faculty development and/or the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning;
  3. Letter or email from the Department Chair documenting support for release time.

Application Format

1) List name, rank, department

2) CTE Faculty Associate position for which you are applying (fall 2023, spring 2024, either)

3) Statement of Qualifications and Interest (no more than 2 pages)

a. Describe your interest in the position, teaching philosophy, and engagement with the CTE

b. Describe your proposed topic, including:

i. Its important for teaching and learning, and how it relates to the CTE and/or University mission

ii. Types of programs you anticipate offering

iii. Your interest and experience with this topic

d. If applicable, describe any relationship between this work and your research agenda
