Cybersecurity on Xavier's Campus

As technology continues to advance, so do the tactics of hackers. This makes the work of Deep Ramanayake, Teaching Professor of Computer Science, and Brian Rappach, Information Securities Director, more important than ever.

Recently hired to grow the Cyber Security program at Xavier University, Ramanayake hit the ground running. Just last week, Xavier University joined an academic alliance with the Department of Homeland Security: STOP. THINK. CONNECT.™

The resources from STOP. THINK. CONNECT.™ are not the only way Xavier leaders are protecting Xavier’s digital information. As Information Securities Director, Brian Rappach’s main objective is to protect the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of Xavier’s Systems. Rappach works with faculty, staff and students, by consistently providing updated trainings and interactive opportunities to learn about cybersecurity.

Both Rappach and Ramanayake plan to engage students this year more than ever. Cybersecurity trivia, escape room simulations and the formation of a student cyber defense team set to compete locally are just a few of the ways students around campus will be able to learn more about how to protect themselves against ever-evolving cyber threats.
